EMF METER USAGE

EMF Meters and the Paranormal

Contrary to popular opinion the main purpose of an EMF meter is to help prove or disprove the possibility of a haunting it is not to detect a ghost. If there is a high EMF reading in a supposedly haunted location there does exist the possibility that whatever events are occurring or seem to be occurring are related to electromagnetic fields in that area (see bellow for Electromagnetic fields effects on general health). Along the same lines if there are minimal or no electromagnetic fields in a particular area and there are the reports of a haunting it can be easier to prove a haunting since high EMF readings can be ruled out.

Electromagnetic fields effects on general health

Some parapsychologists and paranormal investigators have become interested in the effects electromagnetic radiation has on the brain. It has been shown that under certain conditions, exposure to high levels of low frequency radiation can cause hallucinations within the brain. Therefore, a person subject to this kind of radiation may 'hallucinate a ghost'. Other reported symptoms include headaches,  suicide and depression, nausea, fatigue, anxiety and even the feeling of being watched.

Items That Emit EMF

Virtually ALL electronic appliances and devices emit electromagnetic fields but they are not the only items that can generate EMF readings. Walking on a rug or the wearing of a particular type of watch can generate EMF readings as well walking by someone that has something that gives off an electromagnetic field in their pocket for instance. Also household wiring or outside high voltage power lines can generate EMF readings along with subways, trains and buses.

The main household items that generate EMF readings are refrigerators, microwave ovens, furnace motors, house phones & cell phones, computer monitors, wireless computer links,  televisions, radios & clock radios, hairdryers, toasters, power tools and fluorescent lights. There are other items that produce electromagnetic fields as well so get an EMF meter and become familiar with ALL possible normal occurrences of electromagnetic fields.

Paranormal Investigating

Paranormal groups and ghost hunting groups often use an EMF meter as part of their tools of the trade.  Many challenge whether these groups properly use EMF meters in the course of a paranormal investigation. A good number of groups believe an entity emits an electromagnetic field, so in all to many cases groups accept the presence of an EMF meter reading alone as  evidence of paranormal activity. In general an EMF reading alone is not enough evidence to declare that there is paranormal activity in a location or area that is being investigated. ALL other possible causes for creating an EMF meter reading must be looked into before attributing it to paranormal activity.  In order for paranormal groups to be taken seriously it is important that they not  jump to conclusions without doing further investigating and research to backup any claims.
